Week 2: Media Impact

My Project would research the question, “at what age do people stop being influenced by the media?”  Or do they never stop?  I would examine people from different ages (starting at 18-21, 21-25 all the way to 50-60, 60+) as well as people from different regions and expose them to different media outlets (ie cartoons, advertisements, tabloids etc).  Using a survey and a laboratory method, I would see how the different age groups and regions react and if any of their opinions on life and an array of subject matters change.

Is a certain age group more influenced than another, are they all the same?  Depending on the region a person is from, does that affect which age group is more influenced?

I predict the results would be a mixed effect.  The region I am sure would play a big role on how the different ages react to what they see and hear and I think personalities would be key on how and if a person is influenced.  For instance if exposed to a sports car commercial; I doubt a 21 year old struggling to get through college from New York would be as influenced as a 40 year old going through a mid life crisis from California to buy the car.  The results would probably show that at any age you can be influenced but the age, personality, knowledge on the subject matter and place that a person is from play key factors on how much a person can and will be influenced by the media.
